Arek Jaworski Belfast City Hall

Hello! I’m Arek Jaworski, a researcher, software engineer, and long-time Belfast resident who splits his time between code, experiments, and convincing houseplants to survive indoors. I started this blog to share Belfast’s best bits — not just the ones you’ll find in guidebooks, but also the quiet corners, cafés, and stories locals keep for friends.

My professional work focuses on artificial intelligence, computer vision, and digital imaging, particularly the fascinating world of diffraction patterns and microscopy. Through my PhD research at Queen’s University Belfast, I explore how AI can be used to study microstructures in water and improve environmental analysis.

When I’m not writing code or research papers, I enjoy exploring Belfast’s creative scene, working on side projects, and finding humour in the balance between technology and everyday life. This site is a mix of research insights, tech experiments, and local discoveries — all written from the perspective of someone who genuinely loves learning and sharing.

If you’re curious about AI, science, or life in Belfast, you’ll feel right at home here.

BTW, my full name is not Arek — but it’s waaaay simpler to spell and pronounce. So just call me Arek (or Eric, as some people say it a bit incorrectly — I don’t mind).
